Mask Parade.
I'm sure anyone who lives in Nelson has heard of the mask parade. If you haven't, or don't live in Nelson it's a parade that has schools, kindergartens, music groups, drama groups, and basically anyone who wants to go in it goes in but the groups etc. have to have masks on. There's judges that of course judge the masks and sometimes you get prizes. Last year Nelson Central won the overall prize and the best school prize in the mask parade. This year Nelson Central didn't go in the mask parade because they do it every second year. So Hannah, Evie and I went to go see it. We dressed up in these funky glasses and sparkly hats so some people thought we were part of the mask parade. We didn't really watch most of it because we were to busy going on the ferris wheel (4 times ). It was sooo fun because we stayed till about 9:30 and we had noodles and drinks at Mango (it was soo delicious!) After the mask parade Evie and I went to Hannah's for a sleepover which was really fun because we sprayed her sister with silly string! At the mask parade we saw this gold man (he had agold suit and his hair and face was gold, well everything on him was gold!) and we also saw these two girls dressed in pink swimming togs and tights doing acrobatics and then we saw an 'Alice in Wonderland group'. I had such a good time I can't wait till next year's mask parade!!!!!!!

My brothers and I.
My brothers are the most annoying creatures on Earth - we are ALWAYS fighting!
Having one brother would be bad enough but I have two!!! Their names are Pete and Toby.
Pete: Pete is 7 and has blonde hair and blue eyes and has pale skin like me. He is constantly annoying me by talking in a baby voice and whenever I'm really annoyed he pulls a ginormous grin as he hits me with a baseball bat. Of course I have to admit that he does bring me bunches of grapes as I lie in hospital recovering, but it is still really annoying that he even thinks it's OK to whack me.......... well that isn't quite true. Even though Pete is so annoying I guess I annoy him too....so maybe we're even.
Toby: Toby is 5 so I can always beat him in fights. I think that's why I like fighting with him - yeah I know, it's weird.

MICE!
About a week ago we got some mice! Two of them are females and one a male. After a long time we finally decided on their names - one of the females' name is Inky. The other female is called Oats (my suggestion) and the male is Flip. I brought a cage in, but at Nature Land they keep them in an aquarium so Fiona (the teacher of Room 8) brought in her old aquarium for us to use. We definitely don't want the mice to get bored so each person in the class can make some sort of obstacles for them to play on for our homework. At the moment we've got lots of milk bottle tubes, houses, running wheel, shredded paper, gnawing log and a cardboard pyramid for them in the aquarium and they're probably not going to get bored because there are 25 children to play with them every day. The really exciting thing about them is that we are going to let them breed around twice so we can see how the mouse life cycle works, but I just want to see the baby mice! We chose a long haired-male, short-haired female and a long-haired female so if they breed we'll have different haired mice. The male is white with brown splotches. The long-haired female is white with black splotches and the other female is completely brown. I can't wait till they breed and when or if they do I'll give a post about them.

Lemonade Tasting
The other day we tasted the lemonade!
It was delicious, it was so magnificent. I'm not boasting but I think that Georgie's and mine was the best out of the class because it was so fizzy and it tasted a bit like ginger beer. Hannah's and Evie's lemonade was nice as well but not so fizzy as ours and Isi's, Joey's and Kezia's was very flat. :) Apparently Luke's tastes like wine so I think that they let theirs ferment too long. Dave said that Rohan O's group's tasted too sweet which I think is impossible because who ever heard of lemonade being too sweet?
Every lunch and playtime we have a glass of lemonade and it's so nice and fresh when you're sitting in the sun.
We haven't got anymore though because we've had so much of it! IT WAS SO GOOD I really want more so I hope we definitely make lemonade again!

My favourite person
I have a favourite person but I'm not going to tell you who they are, but I'll give you clues and tell you about them....
First of all she is a female. She is a girly girl and enjoys girly things, such as shopping, baking, going out for dinner etc.
She lives in New York and lives in a rather large apartment near the city centre. She has a giant shoe collection including high heels, boots, flip flops, sandals, sneakers, ugg boots/slippers and trainers.
She works at a clothes shop and also designs new outfits. Before she starts work she always goes to DELICIMO. When she gets there she has a coffee with her mates. She also has a delicous cheesecake.
Most of the time after work, she goes out to dinner - different restaurants all the time. One time she flew over to Italy for dinner!
Her bed is giant; it nearly takes up half of her bedroom. The bed has a purple velvet duvet and feathery white pillows piled over one another at the head of the bed. She's very particular on treating furniture nicely but she always bounces on her sofas and bed. Speaking of her sofas....
They're amazing because they're magnificantly fluffy with the softest pillows ever. It's orange leather with an orange and white fluffy blanket draped over it and it has white pillows with black designs on them.
That's some information about my favourite person
Ooo, I almost forgot, she prefers butter than margarine.
Ella :)

Lemonade
Lemonade is so delicious but I've only tasted supermarket lemonade and my (disgusting, sticky) home-made lemonade. Our class is making fizzy lemonade and I'm really looking forward to tasting it! First of all you have to squeeze 3 lemons to get the lemon juice. Then you have to pour 1 cup of sugar. You add boiling water in the jug up to 600ml (between 3-2 cups) to dissolve the sugar. Once the sugar has dissolved the sugar you add cold water up to 4 cups. Georgie and I picked a 2L plastic bottle and poured the water and sugar into the bottle. Once it's in the bottle you pour half of your lemon juice in and add 1 quarter of a tsp of yeast into the bottle. Add the rest of the lemon juice and screw on the bottle lid. Whala and it's finished. I can't wait to see the final result but we're not going to leave it too long because it will turn alcoholic, and that wouldn't be good!! :)

Hey, it was just the school holidays. All my cousins came down from Wellington - awesome. They're all very cute apart from Joel who is 14 :). We rented a house at St Arnaud which was freezing!!!! Did you see how many exclamation marks I put?
It was an awesome house though with a stream and tree honey. It was also close to Rainbow Ski Field so we went skiing for two days. Unfortunately only the learners and intermediate slopes were open so I didn't get to go up on the T-bar. We also.....wait for it.....WENT ICE SKATING! It was one of the coolest experiences ever. It was quite scary as well though because I've just been reading 'Little Women' where one of them falls in the pond while ice skating, so that sort of put me off. Once I got on the pond it was really fun and I started to do cross overs, turns and skate backwards. A tree was half frozen in the pond and there was also a 5c coin and a trout frozen in it as well. At the house we rented it was also a bit freaky because there was a grave in the forest close by the house. There was also a river by the house which we saw 2 weka by. It was a great holiday but there was a not so good thing about it - I lost my ipod up at the ski field :(
18.7.10
Yay! My ipod is at the ski field and I'm going to go get it. So that's very very good news!
My other good news is that we went up to the ice skating pond again but it had melted a bit so it wasn't as smooth to skate on and I was even more afraid of going on the ice because it was so thin, but once I got on it was fine - again.
HOLIDAYS = ELLA HAPPY :)

Cabbage Soup
Sludge, sludge, sludge. I walked through the brown and orange seaweed. I think of seaweed as a protective blanket on top of the sea; it moves as if someone is making the bed and they've just laid down the duvet. When I put my foot into the seaweed it tickled against my ankle and I quickly pulled it out and carried on walking.
We came to the tricky part, crossing the rocks. They were rough wild rocks, but part of them had been smoothed by the Lawson family's traditional food hunt. Water raged, smashing against the rocks. I put my arms out to Dad; he put me over his shoulder and stepped over the seaweed and water in the middle of the rocks.
It was time. The reason I had come didn't seem so exciting now that I was about to do it. Dad, Nevil and Joel slid into the water and disappeared beneath the swell. Suddenly their feet started slapping the water and Dad came up with a paua.
"Ddddaaaaaaddddddd!" I yelled. A swell was about to come and Dad grabbed onto a piece of seaweed.
I walked into the water, Dad right beside me. Dad felt around the water and then put his thunb up. I had heard about man-eating eels hiding under the rocks. I knew they were only tales but I couldn't help being scared. Dad had big thick water gloves on, so maybe he was as scared as me! I got the screw driver and wedged it under the paua. Got it! I quickly put it down my wetsuit to keep me warm.
I scrambled out of the water, wrapped myself in my towel and thought about the cabbage soup we were going to have when we got back!

29/5/10
29/5/10
This weekend my family and I went up to Wellington for a roller hockey tournament. It was my first tournament because I've only just started. I played in the under 10's and the under 12's. I scored 1 goal when I was playing with the under 12's - YAY!
We have to wear lots of padding and gear because it's quite a rough sport, like....
padded pants
knee/shin pads
over pants
skates
gloves
elbow pads
helmet
hockey stick
It's a lot of gear - the goalies have to wear even more!
You get very hot in all the gear because you're skating around so much. I usually play defence but I probably enjoy playing attack more. In roller hockey if the puck's against the wall or anywhere on the rink you can kick it with your feet as well as using your stick. If you're really skilled you can flick the puck onto your stick and throw it into the goal. There's 4 players on the rink but you sub nearly every 2 whistles which when you're on the rink seems a very short time but when you're on the bench it seems to take forever and you want the next whistle to blow so you can go back out on the rink. People say that with the skating it has the same sort of movements as skiing and I really enjoy skiing and I really enjoy roller hockey!
The next tournament is in New Plymouth this school holidays which I'm really looking forward to!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget to post comments,

Easter
EASTER! One of my favourite holidays of the year!
I'm not a big fan of God, but I am a fan of chocolate and cute new born animals!
This year (2010) my family and I went to Pohara (in Golden Bay) with some friends for Easter. We stayed in some motels that our friends owned and we got to stay in them for free because my dad had won a free voucher to stay there at our school gala!
My friend and I had our own little unit that her and I could stay in. We did watch a lot of tv though!!
The 'Easter bunny' was a bit late hiding the eggs so we went down to play on the beach while he hid them. When he hopped away, we ran around frantically looking for all the hidden eggs. We found them all. There were creme eggs, caromallo eggs and chocolate/ marshmallow eggs! YYYUUUMMM!
To be fair we shared the eggs out each chosing one by one.

I love Easter, I love the beach, I love my family, and most of all I LOVE CHOCOLATE! lol

School tryathalon!
This is a little poem thing, we wrote about the school tryathalon!
Along Willow walk
My butterflies had suddenly gone. I was staring at the girl in front of me. Her togs were blinding me; they were sparkly blue with white stars. As I passed her they suddenly disappeared behind me. There was nothing I could stare at apart from the path ahead.
Going towards the pool
My throat was going dry. My legs ached because I had just run up the steps beside the yellow slide. I trotted across the stones at the adventure playground, looking behind me to see if anyone was going to come up and pass me. (I know they say not to look behind you but you just can't help it!)
In the pool
I didn't have enough breath to swim in the pool so I walked. My shoes felt all squidgy.
Down the hill
My feet kept sliding forward in my shoes because of all the water from the pool.
I got my bike by its handlebars and flicked up the stand. It was uncomfortable riding though -because of the water I kept sliding off my seat.
At the bike transition
I got my bike by its handlebars and flicked up the stand. It was uncomfortable though - because of the water I kept sliding off my seat.
At the finish line
"Keep pedalling! You're nearly there!" I say to myself.
"Aaaahhh....." It's finally over as I collapse on the ground in exhaustion.

Fuse Circus
The Navigators is one of the Fuse Circus's busker shows.
Room 2 walked down to Trafalgar Square to see the Navigators perform. We left the school at 10:55. The sun was burning when we got to Trafalgar Square, and we had to sit down waiting for the show to start for 15 mins.
Two of the cast came out to entertain us until the show started. Then a man came out onto the stage with a funny green hat on and played a sort of game with the audience to start the show off. "I will ring that bell up there then the show will start!" he said. There was a pole up next to the bell and he did all sorts of acrobatics up the pole and then rang it.
The two ladies who came out earlier to entertain the crowd came out onto the stage as well as another woman and a man dressed in bronze and brown. The show was all about the cast being on a sailing boat and there was a storm and the captain of the ship got lost in the storm and the 5 of them had to sail the ship to land.
There was the man with the funny green hat, a woman dressed in a white and blue frilly outfit, another woman with a white and frilly outfit, another woman with a red and black lacy outfit and the man dressed in bronze and brown outfit.
Throughout the story of sailing back to land, they all did amazing acrobatics that fitted in with the story which showed how agile, flexible, strong and what great balance they had!
At the end they brought out the buckets for the money and one of the men said "If you give $10 then the crew will get coffee, if you pay $50 the crew will get lunch and if you pay $100 then you get Lila (one of the woman cast)!! That was very funny!
It was incredible to watch but I don't think I'll ever be able to work as hard as them and do those frightening acrobatics!!!!!
bye, till next time

Rock Sculpture!
Hi everyone,
Dave (my teacher) said that we need clothes that we could get wet in and suitable footwear. He didn't tell us what we were going to do or where we were going. I thought it was something to do with water but i didn't think we were going to sculpt anything!
On Tuesday the 9th of Feb Room 2 walked down to the Maitai River by the Nile Street bridge. We didn't know what we were doing there. Dave said we were going to build a sculpture, a circle made out of stones in the river. Dave looped a long skipping rope around a stick and pulled it around the stick to mark out where the circle would be.
As someone pulled the rope around children put down rocks and pebbles at the end of it. The circle looked awesome even though we had just started. We kept adding rocks until it was 9-10 inches high.
Halfway though the process of building it I dropped a rock on my finger. The rock had ripped some of the skin off and it was bleeding a bit but it wasn't till later you could see all the bruising and it was really really swollen. It was bad luck because it stopped me helping a lot more than I was. Continuing the bad luck, when we up on the Nile Street bridge somehow I grazed my back!!!
The stone circle we had made looked awesome once we had finished!!!!!!
